My two great passions in life are science and running, so it only makes sense I’d have name like Runswithatoms.
Science: Always the curious kid, it was obvious from a young age that I would go on to be a scientist. I grew up playing with science kits, microscopes, and biology-based models. In college, I took a number of biology and biochemistry courses, but ultimately decided on chemistry as a major. I received my Ph.D. in theoretical chemistry in 2009 and have since spent my time modeling chemical and physical processes using molecular dynamics simulations.
Running: When I’m not doing science, I’m generally out running. I started running competitively at the age of 15 when I joined my high school’s indoor track team. Though never someone spectacular, running has grown into one of my life’s great loves. Over the years I’ve competed in 4 marathons, 10 half marathons, and countless other races ranging from the 1-mile to the 10-miler. I’m currently suffering from a herniated disk which is compressing the sciatic nerve running down my left leg, so my doctor has nixed running, cycling, and yoga from my athletic regime. Unfortunately, my athletic regime consisted only of running, cycling, and yoga. With any luck, I’ll be able to post about my recovery process and subsequent return to running in the near future.
